Kelly Clarkson recently shared about her children's positive reaction to their move from Los Angeles to New York City for Season 5. In an interview with PEOPLE, the singer expressed her unhappiness in L.A. and the need for a fresh start.
She mentioned that her son, Remington, immediately felt a connection to his new school in New York, expressing that it was better than his previous school. Kelly was amazed by his response, especially considering he is only 7 years old. She emphasized that seeing her kids happy in their new environment was a significant win for her as a mother.
Kelly also recounted a heartwarming moment with her nine-year-old daughter, River, who wanted to name their new dog "Charlie" after Charlie Brown. When Kelly pointed out that some people might think it's a boy's name, River confidently responded, "What do I care what people think?" This moment made Kelly feel like she had succeeded as a parent.
Reflecting on her children's resilience and independence, Kelly expressed pride in her son's ability to articulate his feelings clearly and calmly. She acknowledged that these seemingly small moments hold great significance and admitted that she learns from her children too.
While acknowledging her high standards for herself, Kelly also emphasized her efforts to balance being present for her children while allowing them independence. She admitted to not being a perfect parent but expressed her commitment to doing her best for her children. Additionally, she highlighted her desire to avoid being a "helicopter mom" and instead focus on being there for her children as much as possible while maintaining a consistent schedule.
