The upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular video game Minecraft will feature a star-studded cast, with Jack Black and Jason Momoa teaming up in leading roles.
Additionally, the movie will also include Emma Meyers and Danielle Brooks.
The production is set to commence in New Zealand, under the direction of Jared Hess, known for his work on the movie "Napoleon Dynamite."
Warner Bros. and Legendary are producing the film, scheduled for release in theaters on April 4, 2025. The screenplay for the movie has not yet been finalized.
Minecraft, originally released in 2011, has achieved immense popularity, boasting over 140 million monthly users.
The game allows players to use colorful blocks to create 3D worlds and has spawned various spinoffs such as Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Earth, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Legends.
The game was developed by Mojang Studios, a Swedish company later acquired by Microsoft in 2014. Microsoft will also serve as a producer for the movie adaptation.
Jack Black has previous experience in game-related movies, having appeared in "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," "Jumanji: The Next Level," and the upcoming "Borderlands" by Lionsgate.
Additionally, he will reprise his voice role as Po in Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s comedy "Kung Fu Panda 4," set to hit theaters on March 8.
This collaboration between Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and the creative team behind Minecraft promises an exciting cinematic adaptation for fans of the beloved video game.
